Yeah, the more expensive versions use turkish walnut, the cheaper variants use breech wood stock. Here's most models listed on one page, but they don't show the premium. http://www.czub.cz/en/catalog/80-rimfire-rifles-cz.aspxThe 513 is the budget model and it goes all the way up to the premium 453 fluted, but not all are available in 22WMR. I never noticed the 455 match before. Maybe it's a new model.

NO! I payed $299 for mine. That was a good deal, keep looking Rob, you can do better. Was that for the 452 American varmint? There's a big variation in price between models. Ah yes it was? My Mistake Sorry

So the range of bullet weights goes from 30 to 50... that's a pretty big spread. I would think the heavier bullets would be generally more stable and accurate, but it probably varies from rifle to rifle a bit.

What do you think of the 'style' model? http://www.czub.cz/en/catalog/80-rimfire-rifles-cz/MS/CZ_452-2E_ZKM_STYLE.aspx If i was to get a .22 (thinking about it very hard at the moment) i want something really light and tough... i wonder if this fits the bill.

The style sounds pretty good if a light and tough synthetic is what you are after. Although my choice would be the 453 American which has the fully adjustable set trigger, larger flatter forend (better if you decide to mount a bipod and only weighs an extra 100 grams.

Rob The other brand I would look at is the Marlin. They have probably the biggest choice of different models. Wood or synthetic. They have the model with a removable magazine in 4 or 7 shot mags. and also tubular magazine models. Search the marlin firearms site. The one thing I don't like with the Marlin 7 shot clip is how it hangs down below so far but they are a good basic no frills rifle.

Hey BF,
Thanks, I had a bolt action Marlin .22 Magnum many many years ago. I didn't like it much, it was a pretty cheaply made gun, I thought, and the trigger was terrible.
Now they are made better (I have one in .17HMR) but that trigger! I had to replace it with a RIfle Basix.
No, I want something different. I think a Savage or a CZ. I'm leaning more towards the CZ now. What ever I end up with it's going to be a while before I can buy it. I'm pretty broke right now!

Sorry Jesus. If we all started a different thread on every thought we had, it'd be mayhem! Anyway, i humbly withdraw my previous statements and beg for your divine forgiveness FWIW i have shot the guts out of a ruger 22mag with that horrible paddle stock and found it to be a really nice firearm. Nice and light, didn't have wads of kick and was as accurate as the shooter and optics were. Having 9 rounds in the rotary magazine, and having sit flush with the stock, are always benefits. The only problem is their price; they're up at the top end for any kind of .22 (at least over here in oz). The other 22mag i used was (i think) a CZ, but it was a heavy stock and heavy barrel affair and not really all that great if you want to tromp around the bush. Is that on topic enough, or do i need to go to the naughty corner?

Yes, I don't really want a heavy gun, as I see the .22WMR as more of a hunting round than a target round anyway. I think about 7 lbs with scope would be max. CZ 455 American. This one is 5.4 lbs, add a 14 oz scope and you're up to 6.2 lbs (approx). http://cz-usa.com/products/view/455-american/Now if I can just save up the money and find one.
