Hey lads,
I got home yesterday from the range and a lovely session sighting in my new Trijicon scope (i really like these scopes!).
Unfortunately, when i came home and was cleaning the rifle, i was twisting the bolt and it's parts a bit as it seemed a bit stiff in operation (and has done from the get go). Anyway, somehow i must've twised it too far (i.e. the receiver) and it looked like it locked in the firing position... nothing i could do would get it back into a position where i could insert it back into the rifle to get a proper action going.
I've ended up, after some muscle and scratches, stripping the bolt down to it's 3 component pieces, but due to the cocking piece being in a 'down position', i can't muscle the spring up so i can wind it back into the bolt sleeve.

I seriously have no effing idea what has happened here or how to fix it and would love some advice/help.

I did the same thing once with my Ruger 77/22H. In the end it took two of us to reset the bolt. Me on one end and my dad on the other. It was hard going even with the two of us. We got there though.

I have not made that mistake again. LOL

I reckon that would be what you need to do.

Cock the action in the cocking piece then put back together and dry fire?
(too much cock in that sentence!  Embarrassed)

In my case, I removed the bolt and then twisted the two halves of the bolt to relieve the tension of the main spring. Then I found I couldn't re-insert the bolt. That was when I had to get my dad to lend a hand to re-cock the bolt to be able to re-install it.

Sort of. But not dry fire. I hold the trigger in while closing the bolt.

Exactly what happened to me and i couldn't twist the receiver back into position to put the bolt back into the rifle

So basically i need to muscle the spring in the cock device down till it's 'loaded', reassemble and then i'll be good to go?

It's amazing how difficult it is to re-cock the bolt by hand, given how easy it is to raise the bolt and therefore re-cock it, when it is in the rifle.

Didn't get to it last night due to a hair cut and also bashing into some old oyster racking in the boat yesterday for work, which has basically sprained my wrist. No way i'd be able to do it at the moment.

You work on a boat? What do you do?

Only occasionally
I work for the state government in it's health agency, more specifically in environmental health. I'm just what's called a 'project officer', which in this job means nothing more than 'glorified admin', but once upon a time i used to do actual project work.

The boat part is once a week, either a tiller outboard dinghy or a bigger, forward control twin outboard and it's for the purposes of sampling water (salinity etc) around oyster leases so people don't eat oysters all fed up on poo poo. I just run the boat basically... nothing special.

Would be cool to get out on the water once a week and get paid for it. One of the properties I work on is right on the river front, sucks to be up on a ladder by the water and see all the folks running up and down wakeboarding and skiing while I work
