I was at a local shop this evening and they had several ATI FX series 1911 pistols. I handled the GI model and it seems to be well made. The GI is a commander sized 1911 with a beaver tail grip safety and decent sights.

Has anyone used one of these pistols? What type of tuning needs to be done if any?

The price is hard to beat, $349 as introductory pricing. That's for the Military 1911A1 style and the GI commander style. I'm thinking I may pick one up Saturday. I figure I shouldn't go too far wrong at that price. The one I handled had an OK trigger that was a bit gritty and broke at 4 to 5 pounds. I have a Citadel 1911A1 so I plan to go with the GI model. I have read they are made by S.A.M. in the Philippines.

I will post photos if I decide to buy.

I decided to buy one today (Saturday) I traded an FNP-9 and slide type holster I didn't like for the pistol, 4 magazines, a Fobus paddle holster and 400 rounds of ammo. The pistol comes standard with two 8 round mags and the dealer added two 7 round GI mags. I put 50 rounds of 230gr round nose through it with 1 failure to feed. I think it was my fault I limp wristed the shot. Accuracy is good I got 2.5 inch 10 yard groups. I will have to polish the trigger a little, it's not as smooth as I like. The trigger breaks at a reasonable 3.5 pounds with no over travel and a very fast reset.

Probably made by the same people who made your Citadel. I've seen lots of good 1911's come from the Phillipines. By the way do you know what you call a Philipino contortionist...........................................a manilla folder.

I bet Samuel Colt is rolling in his grave. Have you taking it apart yet?

I did a complete tear down and polished the trigger components, The trigger now has a nice clean break right at 3 pounds. I'm sure the maker copied a pre-series 70 Colt exactly. I compared all the trigger parts and frame with a buddies pre-series 70 Colt made 1911A1, they all miked out the same.

I was thinking that. I thought JMB designed the 1911.

RIA (Rock Island Armory) 1911s are also made in the Philippines.

Aren't the Philippines a US territory, like Puerto Rico, since WW II?

No Rob, the Philippines are not a US territory. They have their own government and President.

However, there are US bases there.
